India’s world record in issuing visas to Bangladeshis
India’s High Commissioner in Dhaka, Prannoy Varma, said that last year, about 1.6 million Bangladeshis were given Indian visas in various categories. He said this is the highest visa issued after Corona. So many visas have never been given before. He said it is a world record in granting visas. Participating in the second quarter lunch meeting of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) in Gulshan, the Indian ambassador said that no other country gives so many visas. We give because Bangladesh is our friendly country.
He said that the issue of visas comes first in India-Bangladesh relations. Bangladeshi businessmen also often talk about visas. They’re not getting visas, but that’s not happening. We give but some checks and selections. Because there are some rules and regulations in business, some may get it and some may not. However, efforts are underway to issue visas more quickly and easily. Prannoy Varma said that work is going on to increase the capacity of the visa center. Over 150,000 Indian visas were issued to Bangladeshis last year, another record for the issuance of visas worldwide.
The Indian High Commissioner said that bilateral relations between the two countries have been strengthened under the leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. As a result, the economic relations between the two countries have also strengthened. He said bilateral trade between the two countries has more than doubled in the last five years and Bangladesh’s exports to India have now crossed USD 2 billion for the first time. He called for improving communication and trade infrastructure between the two countries. He also called for various measures to improve cross-border rail infrastructure to ease congestion at the Petrapol-Benapol Integrated Checkpost. Prannoy Varma suggested enhancing land port infrastructure and increasing the number of land ports.
